Caen
Twinning
In 2004 Portsmouth U3A
invited a party from the French UIA (the equivalent of the
U3A) to visit Portsmouth with the idea visits could be
arranged on a regular basis.
A French party was happy
to accept our invitation and arrived for a three day visit,
during which they visited places of interest around
Portsmouth.
This was so successful
and many friendships were forged with the result that the
exchange visits have a regular event in our calendar.
When a Portsmouth group
visited Caen in 2005 a formal "Twinning" Charter was signed.
It was also agreed to join in a joint research project to
trace the historic links between our two cities. This is
ongoing.
The next
twinning will be from the 4th to 7th May 2010.
4 May. Arrival & settlig in with family.
5 May Trip to Trouville, Deauville,Honfleur with visit to Museé Eugène Boudin. Free time Honfleur.
6 May Reception at Town Hall. Meal at University. Entertainment by UIA group
7 May Shopping in Caen. Meal at restaurant near sea. Departure..
